Over the Memorial Day weekend the Team Chicago Academy-Olimpico U14 boys put on an impressive show to win the championship of the Oswego Soccer Classic as they went without yielding a goal the entire tournament.

The first game of the weekend started off with a bang as the Olimpico boys won 7-0 vs. the Bolingbrook Raiders. Bryan Torres opened the scoring within the first two minutes as he slotted a ball past the goalie. Both Bryan and Nick McGrath would finish the game with two goals each and Jason Aranda finished with a hat-trick.

The next few games would prove to be more competitive. In the second game the Olimpico boys faced FC Scorpions and were able to escape with a 1-0 win. The lone goal came from Bryan Torres. The defense was anchored by Alex Bass and Abraham Antar with Nolan Laczynksi make some incredible saves in goal.

Sunday morning the Olimpico boys needed a win or tie to advance to the final game. They faced the Three Rivers SC in a defensive battle as the game ended in a 0-0 tie. Again, Nolan Laczynski was at the top of his game as he directed the defense and saved any shot that came his way.

After a bit of a rain delay, the Olimpico boys were set to face Mid State SC in the championship game. Bryan Torres started off the scoring mid-way into the first half as he slotted a ball past the keeper on an nice pass from Holden Beinhauer. The second half was a battle of possession as both teams were bringing maximum effort. With five minutes left Bryan scored again from outside the box putting the ball high into the right corner to cap off the scoring. Nolan held down the defense with another shutout.

Team Chicago Academy-Vitoria beat Chicago Fire Juniors South 1-0 to claim the IYSA U12G State Cup title. In a very intense and hard-fought game, LIzzie Albert found the game-winner in the 23rd minute when she received a great pass from Hannah Miller and calmly slotted it past the Fire keeper.

Tara Tesmond earned her 2nd shutout in two days behind a fantastic performance of the entire back-line. It was a true team performance, and the perfect culmination on an amazing run this spring that saw Vitoria go 9-0-1 with 35 goals for and 2 against.

Congrats on a great season girls!

Team Chicago Academy-Bahia U14G and Team Chicago Academy-Vitoria U12G both earned berths into the IYSA State Cup Final with Semi-final wins earlier today. Bahia defeated Eclipse Elite 3-2 and Vitoria defeated FC United 1-0.

After conceding an early goal, Bahia played a very strong first half. Two minutes after Eclipse’s goal Natalie Massa found Allie Anderson in the midfield, and Allie played a perfect through-ball to Paige Miller who tied the game at 1-1. Midway through the first half it was time for the Emma Crosswait Show when she scored two goals in two minutes. The first was a perfectly worked play when Sophie Majher found Allie Anderson who yet again played a perfectly measured through-ball into the path of Emma’s run. Her 2nd goal came from another nice through-ball this time from Shannon Tagler.

Bahia took a 3-1 lead into the break. For the first 25 minutes of the 2nd half Bahia continued to dominate and had several chances to put the game out of a reach. However, with the clock running down and Eclipse throwing everything forward Bahia had to hang on to secure the win. Eclipse managed to pull one back in injury time, but it was too little too late.

Bahia will face Campton United in tomorrow morning’s final at 10am at the Naperville Polo Fields.

Vitoria battled a very formidable FC United team back and forth for the entire 70 minutes. But in the 57th minute Olivia Guerri found the eventual game-winner when she drilled home the rebound off Alex McPhee’s great strike that hit the far post. Tara Tesmond and the entire back-line battled heroically to secure the shutout.

Vitoria will face Chicago Fire Junior South in tomorrow’s final at 8am at the Naperville Polo Fields.
