Team Chicago Academy-Botafogo and Internacional took on Eclipse Select in MRL play this past Friday night, and both teams emerged victorious in tough field conditions.

Botafogo took a 1-0 lead into halftime on Darby Moran’s goal from Dana Miller’s cross. Eclipse got an equalizer 2 minutes into the second half, but co-captain Jenna Romano headed in the game-winner from Meegan Johnston’s perfect free-kick halfway through the second half, and Zoe Swift got her 5th goal in 5 MRL Premier Division games to put the game out of reach for Eclipse off Meegan Johnston and Dana Miller’s assist.

Posted by Phil Nielsen at Oct 3, 2011 12:31PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Team Chicago Academy-Brasília traveled to Indianapolis this past weekend to compete in the prestigious FC Pride Cup. Playing in the Premiere Division against three challenging opponents tested the team.

Brasília opened the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Javanon, the #2 ranked team from Kentucky. In their second match on Saturday, Brasília squandered a 2-0 lead in the last ten minutes and tied Carmel United, from Indiana, 2-2. On a very cold and wet Sunday morning, Brasília dominated and beat St. Francis Xtreme, from Indiana, 3-0.

With a 2-0-1 pool play record, Brasília moved into the semi-finals where they met the host team FC Pride. In an evenly played game, Brasília gave up a corner kick goal with eight minutes to go in the match after a great save by keeper, Megan Keefer, on a penalty kick and lost 1-0.

Team Chicago Academy-Santos are off to a perfect start on the 2011 MRL season. Playing in the First Division, Santos opened play last Sunday against St. Louis Scott Gallagher, and goals on either side of the break from co-captains Kaela Leskovar and Kristen Brots proved enough to secure a 2-1 win. Kristen Brots was assisted by Olivia Schmitt and Talise Romain.

Last night Santos followed up with a convincing 3-1 win at Fox Valley Strikers. Both Kaela Leskovar and Olivia Schmitt recorded a goal and an assist after Kristen Brots opened the scoring 10 minutes in. AJ Jakuszewski also recorded an assist as Santos took a 3-0 lead into halftime after a near-perfect first half performance.

The second half was a lot more even, and the Strikers reduced the Santos lead to 3-1 after 8 minutes. However, stellar defensive play by Courtney Keefer in goal, and the entire back-line helped secure the win.

Next up for Santos in MRL play is a couple of games in Rockford 10/22 and 10/23 against two Wisconsin teams.
